We start on our mats with some gentle stretches, slowly building up as we get warmer and more bendy to more challenging poses. Some postures will be held for a little while and some postures we will move through sequentially in a ‘flow’.
A lot of people tell me that they’re ‘no good’ at yoga. Don’t worry about it! It’s a supportive environment where we explore postures to suit everyone. Please let me know if you have any injuries or concerns and we can work together to find postures that you feel comfortable in.
Yoga should never cause you pain or discomfort, but it is about finding a balance and harmony with your body so you can be comfortable and relaxed, whilst also increasing strength and flexibility. It’s important to listen to your body in yoga. Sometimes you will feel like doing more vigorous practice and sometimes, you will find the more gentle poses more helpful and restorative, we’re all different on a daily basis! We will normally finish the class with some breathing exercises, a short meditation and a relaxation lying down in ‘savasana’ (lying down pose).
It’s best to come wearing something comfortable, stretchy or loose fitting. Most people wear leggings or jogging bottoms and a vest top or tshirt. It’s a good idea to bring something warm as well, like a hoody or a blanket for the end. If you have a mat, bring that too, if not let me know and I can provide one for you.
